Nutritional Analysis

The nutritional analysis proficiency tests are primarily aimed at nutritional labelling compliance, where laboratories in the supply chain are verifying the nutritional content of food products. The matrices comprise ingredients (such as flour) and finished products (such as ready to eat meals).

The nutritional components proficiency tests include proximates and general categories corresponding to the AOAC nutritional triangle. Sodium and chloride are required as separate determinands, not as salt (unless otherwise specified). Total dietary fibre can be determined by any AOAC method. Specific instructions will be provided where there is known method dependency (including hydrolysis steps for total fat, temperature for ash and moisture).
